About Rancho Mirage Hyperbarics

Rancho Mirage Hyperbarics is the culmination of much research and hard work by owner Alden Elliott Hubble. She was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue, Sclerederma, and Lyme’s Disease, and had been to countless doctors. She was highly skeptical of Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy when a doctor recommended it to her in 1999. But after only three treatments, Alden experienced a dramatic change in her health, and was so impressed that she wanted other people who suffer with chronic illnesses to “experience the healing power of oxygen”. And so, Rancho Mirage Hyperbarics was born

Alden wanted a place where patients could experience hyperbaric oxygen therapy in a private, secluded and relaxed setting. Rancho Mirage Hyperbarics is located in an intimate setting in the beautiful Mirage Center. It is in the heart of one of the most prestigious medical communities in the country and is the newest post surgical facility in the desert.

Rancho Mirage, California is well known as the “Playground of the Rich and Famous” and caters to the demands of a world class clientele. The Center is located just minutes from Palm Springs (90 minutes from Los Angeles) and is within close proximity to world class hotels and excellent medical care. The Center offers a private entrance for those patients desiring extra privacy.

Specializing in wound care and post-surgical cases, the center has a medical team that sets them apart from other centers. Doctor Chuck Shapard, Medical Director, has an extensive baro-medical background in both hyperbaric and hypobaric medicine. Alden Elliott Hubble, owner and program director says that she is very excited about the many possibilities that the center has to offer.

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is an AMA and FDA approved medical treatment which enhances the body’s natural healing processes by inhalation of 100% oxygen. This treatment is administered in a pressurized chamber which increases plasma oxygen concentration. It is this resulting increase in tissue oxygenation that stimulates the immune system and promotes the growth of new, small blood vessels.

Our hyperbaric oxygen therapy is administrated in a private setting, in a state of-the-art mono-place (single occupancy) chamber. Clear acrylic walls allow our medically trained staff to continuously monitor our patients as they watch TV, listen to music or nap.

How Does It Work?

Normally, our atmosphere is exerting 14.7 lbs per square inch of pressure at sea level. This is equivalent to one atmosphere absolute (1 ATA). In this atmosphere, we breath approximately 20% oxygen and 80% nitrogen. During HBOT, pressure is increased two to three times the normal atmospheric pressure while the patients breathes 100% pure oxygen.

The combination of the high concentration of oxygen (100%) and increased pressure causes large amounts of oxygen to be dissolved in the patient’s blood and other fluids. Because of this hyper-oxygenation, white blood cells that destroy bacteria are more efficient at clearing infections.

HBOT also causes vasoconstriction which deceases swelling and edema, shortening the healing time and promoting better healing for reconstructive and plastic surgery patients. Common medical conditions, usually reimbursable by insurance, that have been shown to benefit from Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy are:

· Radiation Tissue Damage
· Osteomyelitis
· Osteoradionecrosis
· Diabetic and Selected Non-healing wounds
· Gas Gangrene
· Reconstructive Surgery, including compromised skin grafts and flaps
· Crush Injury
· Compartment Syndrome
· Limb Salvage, Reattachment and Amputations
· Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infection
· Carbon Monoxide Poisoning and Cyanide Poisoning
· Exceptional Blood Loss Anemia
· Air or Gas Embolisn
· Decompression Sickness (Bends)
· Thermal Burns and Lyme’s Disease

Other medical conditions that shown to benefit from HBOT are:

· Elective plastic surgery recovery. Healing from laser or traditional types of plastic surgery
· Stroke: acute or post
· Multiple Sclerosis: acute, relapsing, remitting, and chronic
· Migraine Headaches
· Near Drowning
· Traumatic Brain Injury
· Peripheral Neuropathy
· Chronic Fatigue
· Cerebral Palsy
· Peripheral Vascular Disease
· Immune System Building
· Autism
· Spinal Injuries
· Sports Injuries
· Frost Bite
· Altitude Sickness

We are dedicated to promoting the highest standards in our field and providing the best patient care available. Our Medical Director is available by appointment for consultations and to coordinate treatment with the referring physician.
